Durante la serata ci sono state ben 13 esibizioni, tra cui quella dei Måneskin con l’energica “Supermodel”. La band era stata nominata per “Miglior Nuovo Artista”, “Gruppo Dell’Anno” e ha vinto il premio “Miglior Video Alternativo” con l’hit “I Wanna Be Your Slave”. Insieme a loro, molti gli artisti premiati sul palco dei VMAs: il premio più importante, il “Video Dell’Anno”, è stato vinto da Taylor Swift con il suo cortometraggio di “All Too Well”.
